CALEB HEARON: MODEL COMEDIAN (HBO)

LEAD 1st assistant camera - ALEXA 35 (5x), FX6, FX3

DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY: Jarred alterman

Caleb Hearon and I nearly crossed paths back in the day in the improv scene in Chicago, so it was beyond special to get to work on his first standup special. I was also thrilled to work with DP Jarred Alterman who is a legend in the documentary scene.

This project was an absolute beast to prep and coordinate. 5x Alexa 35’s fully kitted out with Angenieux ultra zooms, diffusion filtration, micro force zoom and cmotion handles, and enough hard wire cabling to village that a type A freak like me appreciates. We also added an FX6 wide that I ended up manning. We also added a FX3 I rigged to go into the ceiling for a top down shot. The FX3 was delivered not 20 minutes before the first performance, so I got to use my super speed rigging/macguyvering to get that up and patched into the feed just in the nick of time.

During prep, I led the build of all the cameras at PRG with two 2nd ACs. It was a long day, but I loved the challenge and meticul. One special case issue I encountered and solved for was building custom display guides per the DP and network’s specs. We also meticulously color coded every gear item to stay hyper organized.
